A major milestone has arrived for the Pi community: the launch of Pi Hackathon 2025, the network’s first competition in the era of the Open Mainnet. Kicking off today and running through October 15, the event sets the stage for developers worldwide to design applications that make Pi more useful in everyday life.
Organizers report that the enthusiasm is already remarkable. Since the registration portal opened on August 15, more than 2,100 developers from over 100 countries have signed up. Nearly 900 participants are still in search of teammates, underscoring the collaborative nature of the hackathon.
At the heart of the event is a prize pool of 160,000 Pi, aimed at rewarding teams that deliver practical, innovative, and scalable apps. Unlike traditional tech contests, this hackathon emphasizes real-world utility, inviting projects that can be directly adopted by Pioneers and even newcomers who have never mined Pi before.
Participants are encouraged to leverage Pi App Studio for rapid development and to share early concepts in the Brainstorm app inside the Pi Browser. This dual approach is designed to speed up iteration while fostering visibility and community feedback.
For developers joining the challenge, organizers also stress the importance of connecting through the official Google group, where key updates and notices will be distributed.
As Pi enters its Open Network phase, this hackathon represents more than just a competition. It is a rallying call for innovation, a platform where developers and Pioneers can work hand in hand to shape the digital economy of tomorrow.
